Please read the information below and explain it to your children so they may understand Dotty & Dot's message. After all, we want to keep Halloween FUN and SAFE for all.
Children Should:
*Walk on sidewalks; not in the street. *Cross the street only at corners and remember to look both ways before crossing. *Do not hide or cross the street between parked cars. *Carry a flashlight to light your way. *Visit only homes that have the porch light on. *Accept your treats at the door and never go into a strangers house. *Trick or treat only in familiar areas. *Go with MOM or DAD or a BUDDY (never go alone). *Never go into a
stranger's car. *Walk facing the oncoming traffic if there is no
sidewalk. *DO NOT EAT TREATS UNTIL AN ADULT HAS INSPECTED THEM!
Costume Do's & Don'ts:
*Wear light colored costumes to be visible in the dark. Add reflectors to your costume. *Make sure costumes are not too long (to avoid tripping). *Secure hats (to keep out of eyes). *Make sure all costumes accessories are safe and flexible (no sharp or pointy edges). *Make sure costumes are made of flame retardant material.
Parents Should:
*Have an adult thoroughly check all candy and discard any questionable pieces (many police agencies and hospitals offer free x-raying of candy on Halloween). *Set a specific time for children to be home. *Give children money to phone home if needed. *Explain to children the difference between tricks and vandalism. *Know the route your children will be taking.
